Memory loss Support Group

Caring for a loved one with memory loss can bring times of joy and times of emotional challenges. The need to research, learn and adapt is essential. Support groups provide ways for caregivers to share information and experiences on getting through the day-to-day realities of the disease process. They also serve as resources for community programs, pharmaceutical advancements and therapy options.

In the 1990s, The McGuire Group opened specialized Memory Care Centers at Harris Hill Nursing Facility in Williamsville and Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda. Today, their experts host a number of monthly support groups in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association at the following locations:

Volunteers needed

To anyone who might be willing to help put the returnable bottles and cans through the machines at Pixley's ShurFine.

This has been a great money maker for the Akron Relay for Life - but it has gotten to the point where Mrs. Drier, Coach & Mrs. Beyer and the Heinike's are pretty much the only ones doing the job. They would appreciate some help if you are interested in spending some time doing this it would be greatly appreciated. Some days the box in front of the store has to be emptied twice a day.  We have collected over $15,000.00 for Research so it is for a very worth while cause. If you would spend some time  doing this your Akron team will get credit for helping collect money for the Akron Relay for  Life. Kandy Palmeri, Our Chair person for the Relay for Life,  helps when ever she is in town, but right now she is fighting a bigger battle for her self, her Cancer has returned and she is undergoing further treatments.

All we do is put the bottles and cans in the machines and turn in the receipts to the girls in the office then once a month the store writes out a check and we deposit it in the Bank of Akron to Becky Smith and she sends it to the American Cancer Office in Amherst and gives credit to the people that have helped.

The Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts could do this to help with their Community Service.  If you have any questions and would like to set up a specific time you could call Coach or Mrs. Beyer and we could set up a time schedule.  Our number  is 542-4148

We appreciate Pixley's allowing us to have the recycle box in front of their store and also thank Todd for sometimes having the boys help do the bottles and cans when they are overflowing.

Coach and Wilma Beyer

on behalf of Relay for Life
